    How to choose a grow kit in 3 minutes

    Species decides everything: oysters are fast and forgiving, lion's mane rewards patience, shiitake logs fruit for years. Then check light, temperature and whether the kit re-fruits.

    Are mushroom grow kits legal in the UK?

    Kits for culinary species such as oyster, lion's mane and shiitake are sold openly in the UK. For the legal detail on other species, see our Research & Safety section.

    How long does a kit keep fruiting?

    In our tests most kits gave 2–4 flushes over 4–6 weeks before the substrate was spent.

    Do I need a humidifier?

    Not for a countertop kit — the kits we tested fruited with a mist bottle. Very dry, centrally heated flats may need misting 3–4 times a day.

    What if nothing grows?

    Check the temperature and misting first, then contact the seller: most kits we bought came with a replacement policy.
